Find Your Purpose

Please note - Similar to the my previous blog about being patient, this is not a life/business coaching moment, as I do not believe in them (Sorry). This is just a collection of thoughts that's been circulating in my head after being away in Brisbane for almost 10 weeks!

Finding your purpose has been a focus of mine over the last few years. Moreover, it's been a topic that's came up in conversation for a while now with friends who run their businesses. In short, I've been able to realise that my purpose is to both give back and help individuals in anyway I can.

If you asked me this when I first started then my ‘goal’ or “purpose” was to be the best trainer in town (Funnily enough, there's currently a poll on the Chronicle right now that's finding the best Personal Trainer in Toowoomba). Additionally, there were only a handful of gyms around and nowadays there’s almost a gym in every corner with trainers offering “scienced based programming”.

Therefore, in the early days, for me to be the best, I thought that I needed to complete a variety of courses that would help differentiate myself from everyone else. For example, when I started I had my Certificate 3 and 4 in Fitness, CrossFit level 1, Crossfit Gymnastics and CrossFit Strongman. Then I went to complete my CrossFit Level 2 course, level 1 ASCA course, CrossFit Sports Specific, Level 1 and 2 Weightlifting/Power Coach course and Level 1 Functional Movement Screen because I discovered that there’s more then one ‘domain’ to health and fitness.

Over the last few years, I attained my ASCA Level 2 and Professional Course as well as finishing my Exercise Science Degree, Grad Diploma of Business, Grad Certificate in Exercise Rehabilitation for Sporting Injuries. Why? Because there’s nothing more fun than slogging away with friends for multiple weeks, but to further learn more and to be the best. However, during this time my perception changed, I let go of my goal of being the best and realised that I just want to give back and help more and more people.

More recently, I began my Masters in Physiotherapy at UQ, not only to improve my skills as a practitioner and learn about the world of health rehabilitation, but to also broaden my purpose so I can give back even more and help more individuals in a variety of different environments.

As I’ve discovered my purpose, it encourages me to help as many people as I can each day. For me, this is a much better feeling than being the “best trainer” because it teaches me to be a best human being instead.

As mentioned earlier, this is not a life or business coaching moment, these thoughts have been in my head during the last 10 weeks of being away and it has further motivated me to continue my purpose, particularly because I am finally back in town!
